In 2015 he passed on to Heaven on a Sunday morning. Ruben was with him as his spirit departed. That night while Ruben was asleep in the upstairs of the family home he was awakened by a bright white light shining in his room. He felt a touch on his shoulder and was quite frightened when he saw his friend that had gone to Heaven that morning standing there with two angels. He spoke to Ruben saying, "don't be afraid. I just want to thank you for all you've done for me and my family. Words can't express how much you mean to me." Then the light faded and he and the angels were gone.
That began a series of nightly visitations and visions. Ruben would be tapped on the shoulder during the night and as soon as he opened his eyes the visions would appear on the wall. His friend, who was now in Heaven, would point out to Ruben sights and people in Heaven. After this happened almost nightly for about a month, one night Ruben was tapped on the shoulder. This time it was an Angel. The Angel said to him, "you are summoned, come with me." To date Ruben has been taken in the spirit to Heaven well over 100 times, being introduced to many of the men and women of the Bible, the Angels Michael and Gabriel, and a growing number of saints who more recently have moved on to Heaven, many of whom are well known ministers, leaders of ministries, prophets and authors. Ruben is being given messages to bring back to God's people to help them go to a higher level in their walk with God, to bring the Body into unity, and to prepare His Body for the Kingdom of God which is soon to come to earth.
And so Ruben's journey is continuing with a new God given
assignment for the body of Christ. He is now a humble, gentle man with a warm sense of humor. He was born in Haskell, Texas, one of thirteen brothers and sisters. The children were raised Catholic until their parents began taking them to a Baptist church. At nineteen he married and became the father of two beautiful daughters. Then Ruben accepted Christ as his Savior and Lord. His wife being Catholic could not accept that and eventually they were divorced. He moved to another town and dedicated his life to God. He told God, "I don't know what to do, but if you want me, here I am."
Through the years he has worked in the oil fields of Texas and Oklahoma, done construction work, landscaping and tree trimming in addition to being helping hands wherever help is needed, such as in Louisiana after hurricane Katrina. God took him at his word and through many adventures and challenges he arrived at a life changing moment in the summer of 2015 Ruben began his ministry by visiting patients in hospitals. There he learned how to be still and listen, because the patients needed someone to listen, not to talk to them. Little by little God taught him. People began to acknowledge that he was there to listen, that he truly cared about their problems, and they would allow him to pray with them. After a while the nurses began giving him notes saying this or that patient needs prayer. That's how his ministry got started. He was working for a nursery landscaping company next to the hospital so on his lunch break that's where he would go. Soon God guided him to a rest home. There were many new challenges there and God was His only teacher. He was still a young man with only a fifth grade education and not much Bible learning as reading was difficult for him. But God has His ways. He used a lady patient whose son had placed her there two years earlier and never returned to visit her to touch Ruben's heart. A beautiful relationship developed between them. He became like a son to her and brought light and joy to her remaining time on earth. She had been a teacher and it blessed her to be able to help Ruben with his reading. When she went home to Heaven her son didn't attend her funeral, but Ruben was there.
Some years later, while about two stories high trimming trees, there was an accident, one of many accidents. He fell onto a concrete porch and lay broken, bleeding, and unconscious until someone found him and called an ambulance. His injuries were so serious, including severe head trauma; the doctors gave him only a week to live. On the third day, Ruben doesn't remember dying, but he heard the voice of God. The Voice said to him three times, "Awaken, Awaken, Awaken!" He did wake up and did not know where he was. He had a metal shield on his chest and back and his feet were tied. He sat up and moved his body to the edge of the bed. Just then two young nurses walked into his room talking and laughing, until they saw him and screamed out, "he's alive!" and ran out. Because the doctors could not understand what had happened and could find no reason to keep him there he was sent to a rehab facility where he stayed for eight days and was released.
For many years now Ruben has gone every Sunday afternoon to his local hospital to visit the children's ward to comfort and encourage children of all ages. Of all the ministry he does that is probably the closest to his heart. Shortly after being released from rehab some pastor friends asked him to accompany them on a ministry trip to Florida and share his testimony. He was still wearing a brace, but after sharing his testimony he prayed for close to four hundred people, and that is how he began to travel and share his testimony of all that God had done in his life. He connected with a team of doctors and traveled with them numerous times to Nicaragua on medical missions. A lady in North Carolina heard of him through a friend and contacted him asking if he would come and pray for her husband who had Lou Gehrig's disease. That began eight years of faithfully ministering to her husband and helping with the in home nursing staff. He would go twice a year staying up to two months at a time in their home. A very deep bond developed between him and this precious man who could no longer speak or move, but spirit to spirit they communicated.
